That it took him and johny awhile to figure things out. After being scared and dumb they work things out and Pony is back with his brothers where he should be.

I think that Ponyboy means that after Darry hit him, Ponyboy could have gotten back home, and Darry would have apologized. But Ponyboy "had taken the long way around" because he didn't go back home immediately. He ran off with Johnny. But he came back "home", which probably means that he was with his brothers.

I think he means that it took that whole experience to really understand that Darry loved him, but he expressed his love in ways that kinda seemed like he didn't care about Pony.

I think Ponyboy means that after all the struggle of running away and living in an old church eating nothing but baloney, he's going to be finally home to stay with his family. Since he finally learns that Darry actually DID care about him, he's relieved to be actually going home to people that actaully care about him.

I think that it means that Ponyboy didn't feel that Darry loved him, so he hated him. But at the hospital, Ponyboy finally figures out that Darry does love him. Before he found out though, it was like living in a house where no on likes you, but when he did see that Darry loves him, he feels like that everything is back to normal, like before his mom and dad died

I think that Ponyboy means "I had taken the long way around", that he had gone a long way, and took a long time to realize that Darry and Sodapop. actually do care for him. "But I was finally home." means that he now realizes that they do care for him and is on good terms with Darry now.

I think what Ponyboy means when he says, "I had taken the long way around, but I was finally home. To stay," is that it had taken a long time for him to realize why Darry acted the way he did towards pony, and, and that he really did love him, but now he knows that, and it's not going to change.

I think Ponyboy meant that he finally understood that he was wanted and loved by Darry."Home" represents the fact that Pony probably didn't like going home because he thought Darry would yell at him or just be strict. Now that Pony understands that Darry doesn't want to lose him, he wants to go home and live in harmony with his brothers.

Before, Ponyboy thought that Darry never cared about him and always considered Sodapop as his family. Now he knows that Darry cares about him and will not have problems anymore with his brothers and can live happily.

I think that Pony means that he went through a lot of violence and traveling such as jumping trains and saving picnic children from burning churches. But he finally decided that his home was the safest place for him to be. He also knew that he would never go through it again.

i think that Ponyboy is saying that although it took him a long time to realize that his family, Darry and Sodapop, actually really care about him, he finally gets the fact that he isn't hated by any of them. "I had taken the long way around..." by that, I think that he is saying that he took the hard and long way to realize that he is loved. Also, when he says,"To stay." I think that he is saying that he will never mistaken that Darry hates him just because he is a little strict. He is also saying that he will understand his brothers when they are yelling or scolding him and still love them the way they are.

I think that Ponyboy's statement means that he took the long/hard way to learn darry's true feelings and that he finally feels accepted and at home to stay.

By saying "I had taken the long way around, but I was finally home. To stay", Pony is actually talking about two things: His relationship with Darry, and returning home from hiding out. The statement means that even though it took a while, his life is on the correct route again.

I think that Pony said that because he had gone through a lot to feel like he's part of the family. Before, he thought that only Soda loved him, and that Darry wishes to abandon Pony because of the way he treats Pony, always scolding him. But after running away, when Pony comes back he realizes how much Darry loves him, and how much he loves Darry. So after Pony had taken the "long way around" (running away), he realizes that he is back home, with the people he loves the most, his family and his friends.

I think he means that when Darry hits him, he runs away from his family, and that when they come to see him at the hospital, he understands their loving and caring for him. So he sees it as when he runs away , he is 'taking a long route' to understanding that his brothers do love him, even though Darry doesn't show it.

I think Ponyboy means that he had finally found home, because he had finally gotten through to the meaning of Darry's actions. He had taken "the long way" because all the time, his friends and Soda have been telling him that Darry cared, that when Darry shouted at Ponyboy he actually meant it for the good of his future. Ponyboy never believed anyone's comments about Darry. He was taking the long way because he could have gone the "short way" and believed everybody about Darry sooner and reached "home" to stay sooner, but instead he took the long way where until he finally ran away from home did he realize that Darry meant for the good.

I think that Ponyboy means he took the long way around meaning that he didn't need to run away from home and instead should have listened to what other people were saying about Darry. But after he finally got it through him he's finally home and he doesn't need to run away anymore and he's there to stay because he knows Darry cares for him.

I think what he meant was that everyone was telling him that he's got it all wrong about Darry not loving him, but he didn't listen and had to learn the harder way that Darry does care about him and love him, by running away and cutting his hair. He didn't need to do all that though. He was home the whole time but didn't realize it.

I think what ponyboy means by this that he finally grew up and coming to relize the fact that darry loves him. He really tooked a long time to figure it out, even when dally tells him that darry is taking it hard. He is also glad to finally relize that it doesn't matter what happens as long as he has his two brothers and the gang that makes it something called home.

I think what it meant was that it took a long time for Pony to understand why Darry acts the way he doest towards Pony, and that he really loves him, and know that he knows that its not going to change.

I think that ponyboy's statement means that he had done many things that he did need to do. For example, he had to run away from home when Darry hit him, but he should have stayed at his home so Darry could have apologized to Ponyboy when he had struck him. Instead of going to Dally and telling what had happened to the park, the two should have gone back home and told Darry and Soda what happened.

I think he means that he finally realized what everyone meant when they said that Darry did love him. He realizes that the reason that Darry was so hard on him was because he didn't want Pony to have to give up his education and his dreams, like Darry had. I think he also means that after Darry hit him,if he had accepted his apology, then he would have been"home". But he hadn't, not until now, so he had "taken the long way back home".

"I had taken the long way around, but now I'm home to stay."
I think that Ponyboy means that he could have came home earlier, but he knew he couldn't because of the killing. He was waiting for some sign, or some way he could get back home without facing all the blame, or facing any fear of going back. This time, after coming home, he's "...home to stay..." and he won't run away again, like the night he ran away from home after Darry hit him. This time he'll stay at home, especially after he knows Darry loves him. YEP YEP!

I think that Ponyboy is actually saying that he understands why Darry was so harsh on him. It was because Darry didn't want Ponyboy to live the same life that he's living now. I think his quote ment that he didn't really the way of his life, but now he knows the correct way after seeing Darry and Soda again.

Because, Pony always thought that Darry doesn't love him and only consider Soda as his family. In the end of chapter 6, when Pony saw Darry was crying he realized that Darry actually loved him as much as he loved. He also realized that his home is when he was with his two brothers, no matter where they are. That is why he said "I had taken the long way around, but I was finally home. To stay."

First of all, I think when he says home, he means with his family, as in Soda and Darry. Before he ran away with Jonny, he didn't understand why Darry was so mean to him. After seeing how much Darry worried about him, he finally took in the fact that the only reason why Darry was only mean to him because he loved Pony. He realized that everything Darry did was only out of love. When Ponyboy said that he had taken the long way around, he meanas that he didn't open his eyes to see that Darry couldn't do without him. He could have realized that before he ran away, but he never did. He had to go through so much to understand.

I think what he means is that he had taken a long time to realize that Dally, Soda, and Two-Bit were right. He had gone through a lot, but now he finally found that Darry did care about him. Now he is home for good and won't run away again, now that he knows why Darry shouted at him so much.

"Home is where the heart is."

Ponyboy was finally home to stay because he had reached a certain level of mutual understanding with his brothers. Ponyboy had taken the longer route. He chose to ignore what all of his friends were saying about Darry and he only chose to look at the surface of Darry's actions. Ponyboy didn't understand why Darry did some things, and now, he does understand. But sometimes, taking the longer way can be more emotionally fulfilling. It was an emotional journey, for Ponyboy, trying to understand Darry, but now, faced with the true reaction of Darry, he knew he was home. I believe that the people who live inside the home create the home instead of the interior/exterior design. Since Ponyboy now truly understands the emotions and and true meanings of the people he resides with, he is home. Home is where the ones you love reside, and when you truly understand someone, you can eventually respect and/or love them. Ponyboy says that he will be home to stay because he believed that he will never want to leave his brothers and friends. I guess he believes that his home will always be there.

what ponyboy ment by, "I had taken a long way around, but I was finaaly home. To stay." is that after the death of his parents he never really felt like he was accepted by Darry. I think that he ment he finally saw what he had failled to see all along, and that was, that Darry raelly did love him. This was the first time that he realized just how much that Darry loved him. Ponyboy;s charecter really started to develope that understanding and that maturity that he lacked at the beginning of the book. Before he thought that Darry was just hard on him because he didn't like him. Now he saw that Daryy was only hard on him becausehe wass afraid that he was going to lose him.

When Ponyboy says "I had taken the long way around, but I was finally home. To stay." I think he means he never understood Darry and why he was so impatient to him. He wondered why he was so strict with him. He had gotten in a fight with Darry, stayed out all night, killed a socs, ran away, and set a church on fire. Especially after he hit him, he became so frightened. He didn't understand. After this long journey he's took, he did more than just save kids. He did more than become a hero. He discovered Darry's love for him. For so many years of Darry's yelling, he understood. He took the long way around, but he was finally home. To stay. Meaning that he took a long time to understand Darry's dislike for him but he finally found out he's just afraid to lose someone he loves again. But he finally realized it and he won't think of Darry as being strict but as a big brother

Before the incident, Ponyboy didn't feel like he belonged in the family, because he thought that Darry hated him. To prevent himself from getting hurt, he lied to himself that Darry didn't love him and he didn't love Darry. Of couse that wasn;t true but the more the gang kept trying to tell him, the more he didn't believe it. Unfortunately, people usually only believe when they see all the evidence shoved under their nose. At the hospital, Ponyboy sees that Darry really does love him, and his guard is naturally let down. He finally believes it, and knows that everything Darry had done for him was because he cared so much. Ponyboy finally felt like he was in the family that had existed before the car accident that had killed their parents. He finally felt like he belonged.

I think that what Pony means, is that he has had a rough time with Darry, but now that they have forgiven each other they'll never fight like that again. When Darry had hit Pony, Pony was so angry that he ran away. Then when Dally had found Johnny and Pony, he had told Pony how worried Darry was and how sorry he felt. Pony responded by changing the subject and acting like Dally hadn't said anything. I think that when Pony came face to face with Darry, and saw him crying, he realized that Darry was really only looking out for him and knew that he was sorry for hitting him. He now believed what Dally was telling him, and was empathetic towards Darry. Pony and Darry hugged each other, and Pony knew that Darry would always watch out for him, and that they could go back home and they would be a closer family.
